Adios Black Moon Manor! Running a paranormal venue to be had for the price of admission is in and of itself not a crime. In Indiana there are certainly many to choose from, and the price of admission usually includes some associated historical significance. To many investigators this is an added bonus. However, to falsify said history and stretch the truth as to the reasons behind a haunting is a crime. And to twist a local families’ history in the process for the almighty dollar? Not a good thing. |
"Anchor Inn of Houghton Lake Heights known for hauntings"
The Anchor Inn in the Houghton Lake Heights area has a very long, rich history. A history dating back to around 1914 when it was built by the Akin Brothers and ran under the name Akin Hotel until 1933. It was mid-1933 when Cliff Chapman bought it and opened it under the name Cliffs Hotel. In the late 1960’s it was sold again to Marie Best. Best also ran it as a hotel, keeping the name Cliff’s on the door. All the owners ran the hotel upstairs and the saloon downstairs, with the exception of Best. Best ran what she called a “hair salon” upstairs as well. History has told on her and sold her out by letting it be known that she was the local madam, using the hair salon as a front for the illegal business. In 1985, it changed owners again. Sam and Jela Stajic bought it and renamed it the Valez Country Inn, and eventually changing the name to Sam’s Lounge. During that period, it was briefly sold and ran from 2003 to 2008 under the name Funky Turtle. Finally, in 2011, Clive and Dot Clymer bought the place and renamed it the Anchor Inn. Since then, their daughter Ronda and her husband Jason Spears have taken care of and ran the Inn.

"Hauntings confirmed at Anchor Inn in the Heights"
The Upper Peninsula Paranormal Research Society (UPPRS) has been “ghost hunting” since 2000, when five people came together with the same passion, the paranormal. Over the years, their love for the unknown has grown bigger and stronger. The love and passion of the group has grown to the point of becoming the only Michigan based affiliate of the television show The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS). On Saturday, December 1st, all five members of UPPRS loaded all their gear at their home base of Sault Saint Marie, Michigan and headed south to Houghton Lake. Their travels brought them to The Anchor Inn, located in the Houghton Lake Heights. Ronda and Jason Spears and owner Dorothy Clymer had contacted the UPPRS crew about the Inn being haunted. As Ronda Spears noted, “We didn’t think too much about it when we bought the place. People would stop by and tell us about ghosts and hauntings, but it didn’t really sink in then.” It would be after the first couple of months that they started to notice things, and hear things. All the while, people were coming inn almost daily to tell them about the old haunted inn.
